We predicted that we would all be talking about conference realignment during the season, and we're none too pleased. This is the time to talk about the play on the field, not what some university president is doing behind their colleagues' backs. Enough of that. Of course Ohio State's putrid performance at Miami had to be discussed, but Phil is ready to move forward and talk about playing Colorado this weekend. Then there's Tom and WVU. After a slight scare at Maryland the Mountaineers get a dream shot at No. 3 LSU in Morgantown. Of course the ESPN Gameday crew is coming to town as well. Of course we talk about other games and do some quick hitters for you. Enjoy!

Before we can look ahead to the Week 3 games, Phil and Tom couldn't resist talking about some of the big games from last week, including the amazing game between Michigan and Notre Dame. But really folks, didn't we really just witness to average teams play up to their potential, instead of two great programs playing a great game? The best game may have actually been South Carolina at Georgia, but you'll have to listen to the show to get more on that. We also look ahead to some pretty good non-conference games, most notably No. 1 Oklahoma at No. 5 Florida State.

Despite all of the crazy weather this past weekend, the college football season got underway. While Tom's Mountaineers played just a tad more than three quarters, and nearly seven hours, WVU did beat "rival" Marshall by three touchdowns. The fourth quarter was wiped away by lightning that just wouldn't go away. Phil's Buckeyes did what everyone expected against a weak Akron team. Thankfully Phil loaded up on Jack-orades before the game as to not get too dehydrated. Your two favorite podcasters also chat about the big games from last week, what's coming up and of course we have to include a little expansion talk. With the season opener just days away, Ohio State fans can finally put the tumultuous off-season behind them. Jim Tressel's replacement, Luke Fickell, gets a break in his first game with the Buckeyes as OSU hosts Akron. The same Akron team that went 1-11 last year. To offer us all a little insight into the 2011 Ohio State season, we welcome Phil Shie from Eye And Eer: College Football Podcast. Phil is one of the rare Ohio State fans who wasn't that upset to see Tressel go, and he's excited to see how the Buckeyes will respond to the changes in Columbus. The long, arduous off season is almost over, and you won't find two happier people than your friendly, neighborhood college football podcasters. We start off this week's show by breaking down "our" games. First is WVU hosting Marshall in the Friends of Coal Bowl, and then Ohio State kicks things off with Akron, who went 1-11 last year. Naturally, we look at the big games of the weekend as well, including Oregon-LSU, Boise State-Georgia and South Florida-Notre Dame. Since it's the first week we decided to offer our not-so-obvious Heisman picks (can you say Russell Wilson at Wisconsin?). There's also some expansion talk, which we both fear could be a recurring theme all season. Tune in and enjoy.

Just when you thought nothing could top the looming Texas A&M secession plan, along comes the Hurricanes. Great way to downplay that whole thug impression. Of course Al Golden has to be figuring out his exit plan, and praying Joe Paterno finally gives it up at Penn State and the Nittany Lions still want him. Of course, Texas A&M to the SEC is still a big off-season story, but the big question is this right move for either party? Speaking of expansion, in 2012 TCU goes to the Big East and most college football media types are basically handing the Horned Frogs the championship. Doesn't this seem a bit myopic? The Big East may not garner much national respect, but TCU isn't going to dominate the league. Phil and Tom will also offer a lot of Big Ten insight in this round of quick hitters. Enjoy!

Has football taken over the top spot as the dirtiest sport in college athletics, taking it away from the likes of John Calipari and Jim Calhoun? Phil and Tom have concerns, but neither is ready to concede the top spot just yet. While we tried, it was impossible not to discuss the Ohio State situation with the NCAA. Following a number of announcements and releasing of information, it appears OSU's compliance department was doing its job. We also discuss preseason favorites, like Oklahoma, to win it all. But what if you had to pick a dark horse, who would it be? How about giving your team that won't live up to expectations? You'll get that and plenty more on another episode of Eye And Eer podcats.

However, we're back to talk about NCAA violations at Ohio State and West Virginia, as well as potential issues at Oregon. We'd like to say this is better than last summer's non-stop discussions about expansion, but it's not. Seriously, can the games just begin so we can have fun again?

Is there a better way to start a podcast than to discuss Dana Holgorsen? He hasn't done a single thing at West Virginia yet, but he's already one of the more polarizing figures in the state. Is there any way that he and defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel can work together in the long term? Not sure that's looking too good. Of course, we couldn't do a show without talking about Ohio State. There's Luke Fickell as the new head coach and Terrelle Pryor heading off to the NFL to hopefully make as much money as he did as an undergrad in Columbus. A few interesting football notes that we couldn't pass up talking about ... Joe Paterno talking to recruits via Skype, Michigan AD Dave Brandon wants to expand the football stadium to 120,000 and Oklahoma is getting way too much preseason respect from the media.

As a podcast for both Ohio State and WVU, this week was a doozy. We had planned to come at you yesterday when the Jim Tressel resignation story was breaking, but unfortunately real life sometimes gets in the way. So we have an episode dedicated mostly to what happened, where does Ohio State go next and will Terrelle Pryor ever play in Columbus again? We also can't overlook the train wreck that is Dana Holgorsen. West Virginia's coach-in-waiting has been booted out of two state casinos and allegedly can't even drink in the bar at his hotel because of his boorish behavior. Is AD Oliver Luck going to regret this hire? Time will tell.

Once again we've had an extended break from the podcast, but it seems like the No. 1 topic still hasn't changed. It's all about Jim Tressel. Will he coach again or not? The allegations continue to get worse and worse for the Vest. Both WVU and Ohio State had some promising moments during their spring games. Does that mean it will translate into great season? Not so fast. While the Fiesta Bowl fiasco is a little old, Phil and Tom discuss the possibilities that this may be the beginning of the end for bowl games as we know it. We also contemplate which team is going to miss its first-round quarterback the most—Auburn, Missouri, Washington or Florida State.

We want to apologize for being away from the podcasting airwaves a week longer than expected. But you know how real life gets in the way sometimes. Oh well, we’re back and glad to be bringing you another great show. With Ohio State having its spring game this week and West Virginia next week, you can imagine your hosts have a wish list of positives they'd like to see from their teams. Some of the other spring games haven't been too much fun to watch, especially when Denard Robinson is trying to run that new Michigan offense. Who doesn't think Robinson wishes RichRod were still around? The NFL Draft gives us one last look at some great college players before they start making real money (not Auburn money). After looking at this year's crop, Phil and Tom and make their picks for Impact Player and Biggest Bust.

While other sports fans are ready for the Final Four this weekend, Phil and Tom are more focused on spring football and the return of college football in the fall. Of course, Phil is doing his best to keep up with the latest on Jim Tressel and whether he can survive the firestorm that he created by keeping the Tat 5 information secret and then sharing it only with one of Terrelle Pryor's mentors. We also look at the Sporting News' Top 25 players entering the spring and are surprised to see how West Coast heavy it is. There has to be some pissed off SEC fans out there. We even found it a little of base, especially with Kellen Moore ranked No. 1 ahead of Andrew Luck. Because we've had an exciting March Madness that includes a Final Four with VCU and Butler, it was inevitable that football fans would say this is what's missing with the BCS system. You know what we think? They're full of crap. Think about it. Does anyone really think a No. 11 seed in football could beat a No. 2 or 1 seed in football? Didn't think so.
